response to the Keynote

The video by Don Tapscott is extremely interesting, and placed forward many intriguing ideas and views. Who new that we, the offspring of the baby boomers watch less T.V. then they did? This is quite scary as I always thought that we watched a lot of T.V. as a generation. However watching his video made me realize that we spend more time online than anything else, communicating and collaborating with people from allover at different times of day. Also his idea that we are fast becoming the creators not consumers of media and website accessories. Like youtube for example and wikipedia. This also ties in with my topic-shifting of content production to users. Don Tapscott mentions as well that the technology that his children find so easy to use still sometimes baffles him. He spoke about how if a person was frozen 100 years ago and woken up in this age he would be overwhelmed by all the changes in technology and discoveries in science, however if he had walked into a classroom or lecture hall at a university he would feel at home. This is a hard subject because I feel that the education system I am in is fine, but perhaps adapting lessons or methods of teaching to individuals would increase the rate of learning and GPA’s around the world. Our school Qatar Academy is already in the transition stage of customized education which Don Tapscott is encouraging.

outline of shifin content production to users

Have you ever created a video and uploaded it onto You tube? Or edited someone’s wiki page? If you have then you are a user producing content. This is our topic, shifting of content production to users.
Shifting of Content Production to Users is a fast growing metatrend, where websites hand over the reigns to their users. A well known example of this is Wikipedia, where members and create there own pages, collaborate with people around the world to change, edit, create content and place it on the website. Shifting of content production to users has a great impact on many areas of our society, these areas are; education, government, politics, employment, arts entertainment, leisure, science, environment, and health.
The reason for its fast growing popularity is that the users love the freedom of being able to create, contribute and share their information with people world wide.
